Question

My child was bitten by another child during play yesterday, even though there was no obvious skin breakage, there was some redness, swelling, and bruising. I’m worried that the other child might have hepatitis B or other infectious diseases. Is there a chance my child could get infected in this situation?

Answer

Based on your description, it’s generally unlikely that your child would contract hepatitis B after being bitten. Even if the other child is a carrier of the virus, the amount of virus in their saliva is usually not enough to cause bloodborne infection. Moreover, since you’re not aware of the other child’s health status, it’s difficult to determine if they have hepatitis B. It’s normal for children to get injured during play. I suggest that both parents should remain calm and address the issue properly.
