Question

My baby was born a few days ago, and recently, I don’t know why, the baby keeps scratching his ears. What should I do if the baby has adenoid hypertrophy?

Answer

The child’s nasopharynx is narrow, and if the adenoids are hypertrophied, they may block the posterior nares and the oropharyngeal opening of the eustachian tube, causing symptoms in various parts such as the ear, nose, and throat. The ear may develop purulent otitis media or sinusitis. The lower respiratory tract may cause coughing or complications such as tracheitis. Long-term mouth breathing may affect the development of facial bones, leading to what is known as the “adenoid face.”
