Question

What impact does the leg rubbing syndrome have on children?

Answer

The leg rubbing syndrome is not uncommon in children, particularly among girls and infants. Children affected by this condition have normal intelligence and remain conscious during an attack. The symptoms often occur before bedtime, upon waking, or during playtime and can be stopped by diverting the child’s attention. During an attack, girls tend to sit on hard objects, pressing their hands against their legs or lower abdomen, with their lower limbs stretched out and crossed tightly, their fists clenched or holding onto something with force. Boys often exhibit a similar behavior by lying on the bed and rubbing back and forth, or by performing actions akin to those of girls.
