Question
Is it feasible for a child to undergo a tonsillectomy?
Answer
Considering that the child’s tonsillitis is in the acute stage, it is currently not recommended to proceed with a tonsillectomy. The tonsils play an important role in the immune system, so they should be preserved whenever possible. In terms of care, the tonsils are typically at their largest between the ages of 3 and 10, and begin to shrink gradually after the age of 12. Surgery is only considered if the tonsils repeatedly become inflamed, affecting breathing, swallowing, leading to nutritional issues, or causing severe sleep apnea. We hope your child recovers soon.
