Question

How to treat a baby’s calcium deficiency? My baby, who is 2 months old and has been drinking formula milk, has been found to have a calcium deficiency. How should I handle this? Do I need to switch to a different formula milk?

Answer

Neither fresh milk nor yogurt is recommended for babies at this stage. The best beverage for a baby at this age is breast milk, followed by infant formula. Breast milk produced within the first 7 (or 12) days after birth is known as colostrum. Colostrum contains higher levels of immunoglobulins, which greatly benefit the newborn’s immunity. It is recommended to breastfeed the baby.
