Question

How to care for a newborn during the postpartum period? What should be noticed?

Answer

Normal newborns have little urine output in the first few days after birth. If you notice that the baby has little urine or no urine, give the child some sugar water first and feed them milk as soon as possible; the urine output will increase. If there is still no urine after 48 hours of birth, it should be checked. The stools of infants breastfed with breast milk are golden yellow, smooth, soft, and have a faint sour taste. Newborns’ clothing should be soft, preferably made of cotton, and avoid using buttons. When bathing, be gentle and do not use rough towels to rub; do not use highly alkaline soap. If conditions permit, it is best to bathe frequently; if not, use a wet towel to wipe frequently, especially paying attention to the newborn’s finger cracks, armpits, groin, and perineum around the anus.
