Question

My newborn is 17 days old and always chokes while breastfeeding, but doesn’t vomit. They breathe rapidly while drinking, often feel short of breath, there’s a gurgling sound in the throat, cough occasionally after drinking a few sips, the stomach always gurgles, and feels better after passing gas… never vomited.

Answer

The baby’s swallowing ability is not fully developed, so they tend to choke while breastfeeding. During feeding, you can slightly elevate the baby’s head and use a nipple with a smaller hole to slow down the milk flow. If you are breastfeeding, gently press the breast to control the milk flow.
