Question
My baby is six months and a few days old. Today, I suddenly noticed that when he stands, his right leg is straight and his left knee is always bent. However, when I pull them straight, they look the same. Could this be a hip joint issue?
Answer
Firstly, it is not recommended for babies of six months to stand frequently. Hip joint diseases are numerous. If there is any suspicion of developmental dysplasia of the hip joint, it is generally manifested as asymmetric gluteal creases on both sides. People with meniscal injury may show uneven length of both lower limbs, and those with synovitis and joint effusion will experience pain in the joints during active or passive movement. For children, this may result in refusal or crying because they are too young to express themselves. It is best to consult an orthopedic or pediatric surgeon at a local private third-grade hospital for a detailed physical examination. If necessary, an MRI can be performed for a detailed and accurate diagnosis. These are non-invasive detailed examinations.
