Question
What are the causes of a child’s diarrhea? How should chronic diarrhea be treated?
Answer
In pediatric clinics, we often encounter many babies with persistent diarrhea that does not respond to multiple treatments. These babies do not have a fever during their diarrhea, maintain good spirits and appetite, and their growth and development are not affected. Regular stool checks also come back normal. This condition is usually referred to as physiological diarrhea. This type of diarrhea often occurs in babies under six months old and those with a chubby physique, often accompanied by eczema. Since this diarrhea does not affect the baby’s normal growth and development, does not come with nausea or vomiting, and the appetite is very good, it does not constitute a pathological state.
