Question

Why hasn’t my baby pooped for several days, and he doesn’t seem to have the urge to defecate? He hasn’t eaten much these days, and have I noticed this situation before? If so, have I taken any treatment measures? How was the treatment effect?

Answer

The baby’s dry stool may be caused by various factors such as slow colonic peristalsis and excessive evaporation of moisture. Possible reasons include: eating too little, insufficient sugar content in the food, leading to a reduction in the amount of residue absorbed, resulting in less stool; high protein content in the food causing the stool to become alkaline and dry; and high calcium content in the food may also lead to constipation. To stimulate intestinal peristalsis and promote defecation, it is recommended to increase vegetable intake. It is not advisable to use rectal suppositories or other medications to promote defecation frequently, as this may lead to dependence. If the baby hasn’t pooped for more than two or three days, consider using rectal suppositories once to clear out accumulated stool.
