Question

What Are the Symptoms of Pediatric Epilepsy?

Answer

Common symptoms of pediatric epilepsy include grand mal seizures, absence seizures, and benign infantile epilepsy. During a grand mal seizure, the child may suddenly lose consciousness, stop breathing, turn blue in the face, dilate the pupils, become rigid in the limbs, clench their fists, and then transition to clonic movements, with frothy saliva. During an absence seizure, the child will suddenly lose consciousness, interrupt movement, stare or roll their eyes upwards, but not fall or twitch, lasting 1 to 10 seconds. Consciousness is usually fully restored shortly after the seizure.
