Question
My baby’s stool has been black for the past two days, and they also aren’t sleeping soundly at night, waking up 3-4 times a night. Could you please tell me what’s going on? Have they been treated before? How was the effect?
Answer
Normal baby stool should be yellow or golden yellow, with a uniform texture and a sweet-sour taste, odorless, and sometimes slightly green or with milk residue. The frequency is usually 3-5 times a day, but some babies may have up to 6-7 bowel movements daily, with small amounts each time and good in appearance. Normal weight gain and good nutritional status are indicators that this is not pathological and does not require special treatment. If the baby’s stool frequency suddenly increases to 5-6 times or more per day, with more water content or undigested food residue, it is advisable to visit the hospital for a re-examination. If the baby has symptoms of indigestion, yeast tablets can be considered.
