Question
My son is preparing to enlist in the military, but the physical exam revealed hematuria, and only after a detailed examination did we find out it’s the nutsack phenomenon. Hello, can he serve in the military? Previous treatment and effectiveness: No treatment, what kind of assistance is needed: I just want to know if there are any risks associated with enlisting?
Answer
The nutsack phenomenon (left renal vein compression syndrome) primarily presents with hematuria and proteinuria. Considering that your child is now over 18 years old, it is recommended to undergo periodic detailed examinations at the hospital. If there are adult patients with persistent recurrent hematuria, back pain, or varicocele who have poor response to strict treatment, surgery may be considered. Avoid consuming seafood, soy products, and spicy foods; do not stand for long periods; and rest more often.
