Question
The child is a premature baby who has never been very healthy, often suffering from colds and fevers. Recently, they have started experiencing a persistent high fever, with sudden low fevers at night that have lasted for almost five days now. Their eyes are extremely red, and we suspect that the child may have Kawasaki disease! We are seeking assistance on how to determine if the child has Kawasaki disease.
Answer
The main symptoms include redness around the anus, red lips, and peeling skin. Aspirin is an essential medication for treating KD; it is an enzyme inhibitor with anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to prevent platelet aggregation and thrombosis. The commonly used dosage in China is 30mg to 50mg/kg per day, divided into 3 to 4 doses orally. In the United States, the dosage is 20mg/kg per dose, taken four times a day, for a total of 14 days. If magnetic resonance imaging of the heart suggests normal or hidden coronary arteries, aspirin can be changed to 3mg to 5mg/kg per day for 2 to 3 months [12].
