Question

How can pediatric torticollis be treated, and is there a possibility of cure?

Answer

In the early stages of infancy, strict treatment can usually result in satisfactory outcomes for most cases of torticollis. If non-surgical treatment is ineffective, surgical intervention may be necessary after the child is 1 year old. It is believed that patients over 3 years old may not be able to fully restore the normal facial shape. For children under 2 years old, a neck brace can be used post-surgery; for older patients, a neck-thoracic cast can be used to tilt the head towards the healthy side and move the chin towards the affected side. After 4 to 6 weeks of immobilization, rehabilitation training and physical therapy should be conducted to prevent scar contractures and maintain optimal condition.
