Question
The baby has excessive eye discharge during sleep. It has never been treated. I want to know the cause and solution.
Answer
Normal infants may have eye discharge when they are 2-3 months old due to inward growth of eyelashes. Upon waking up in the morning, you may notice secretion in the eyes. This is a normal phenomenon that usually improves after the age of 1. You can gently clean it with a warm towel or use a cotton swab dipped in a 2% borax solution. If you are worried, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
