Question

My baby suddenly developed several lumps behind their ear. What could be the cause? What kind of help do I need?

Answer

Newborns’ lymphatic systems are not fully developed at birth. During the first 20 years of life, especially during infancy, the lymphatic system rapidly develops. Usually, it is difficult to feel lymph nodes in newborns, but after birth, especially during infancy, the lymphatic system is highly active, and it is common to feel single or several lymph nodes in superficial layers of areas such as the neck, under the chin, behind the head, in front of the ear, and in the inguinal region. These nodes are typically soft and sometimes slightly hard, without tenderness, which is a normal physiological function.
