Question
A 6-day-old infant has two white dots on the upper gum. What is the condition? Previous treatment and effectiveness: Not treated; What kind of help is needed: Want to know what the condition is.
Answer
Some newborns are born with these white dots, medically referred to as “nipple teeth,” which are not teeth but fat pads that aid in breastfeeding. Be careful not to pick at or strike them to prevent recurrence of infection. This is a normal phenomenon and not a disease.
