Question
My child was hospitalized due to cramps and has been taking some medication since discharge. Now, after stopping the medication for some time, there is still a problem with dark circles under the eyes. Could this be related to liver function?
Answer
Dark circles may be one of the manifestations of chronic diseases, including chronic liver disease. People with long-term abnormal liver function or liver enlargement may have up to 20% develop pigmentation around the face and orbital area, resulting in dark circles. For patients with chronic liver disease, treatment should be based on rest and dietary therapy to reduce the burden on the liver and provide adequate nutrition to repair damaged liver cells and restore liver function.
