Question
When babies are learning to crawl or stand, their legs may make noises. Is this normal? Could it be a hip joint issue?
Answer
During the growth process, leg noises in babies can be a normal physiological phenomenon, but they might also indicate hip joint problems. Congenital hip dislocation is one of the more common congenital malformations, which can cause such noises. The incidence in female babies is slightly higher than in male babies, and it often occurs bilaterally. The main reason is structural abnormalities or underdevelopment of the hip joint, making the joint too loose and prone to dislocation or subluxation. Additionally, an abnormal position of the fetus in the womb can increase the risk of the condition. Genetic factors are also an important factor, as there may be a tendency for familial inheritance. If you notice that your baby’s leg noises are abnormal or their legs are uneven in length, it is advisable to seek medical examination early on to rule out the possibility of congenital hip dislocation.
