Question
Why do I get diarrhea every time I drink milk? I recently bought a box of Yili Nutritional Demulcent Milk and had diarrhea twice after drinking it twice. What could be the reason? Previous treatment and effectiveness: I also get diarrhea from regular milk, but not from yogurt or kefir. Help: How should I treat it?
Answer
Dear patient, I am pleased to clarify your concerns. Milk contains a unique substance called lactose. Normally, lactose is digested and absorbed in the small intestine with the help of lactase. However, as we age, the activity of lactase gradually decreases. If you consume milk and the lactose is not broken down, it remains in the large intestine to ferment, producing water, carbon dioxide, and lactic acid. Since lactic acid is not digested by the body, it leads to abdominal pain and vomiting.
