Question

What is the appropriate daily water intake for infants?

Answer

According to recommendations from the Taiwan Department of Health and Welfare, infants aged 7 to 12 months should consume between 600 to 1000 milliliters of water daily, while children aged 1 to 3 years should also consume between 600 to 1000 milliliters of water. When calculating the daily water needs of infants and young children, the water content in milk, juice, and food should all be taken into account. Parents can assess whether the water intake is sufficient by observing the color and frequency of their child’s urine. If the urine is clear or nearly colorless, and the frequency of urination is adequate daily, it indicates that the water intake is appropriate. Conversely, if the urine is dark yellow and the frequency is reduced, it may suggest insufficient water intake.
