Question
Is neonatal TSH weakly positive a maternal generational inheritance? During pregnancy, my TSH was consistently low, and I had several re-examinations. The doctor didn’t suggest taking medication, and now the baby’s TSH is weakly positive.
Answer
Congenital hypothyroidism may be caused by congenital factors leading to thyroid hormone production disorders or increased excretion, resulting in growth retardation and intellectual impairment in the child. However, a single TSH weakly positive result is not significant and cannot diagnose congenital hypothyroidism. It is recommended to have a re-examination or additional thyroid function tests. Generally speaking, there should be no problem, and there is no need to worry excessively.
