Question
The baby is now 40 days old and the jaundice has not subsided. We haven’t given any medicine yet, and the hospital has carefully examined the baby and said that the blue light treatment is not very effective, so they suggested giving the baby some medicine first. What should we do, and we are not sure of the cause of the jaundice.
Answer
The baby still needs further examination because the current jaundice level is still very high, at 344.7, indicating a dangerous state. Tests such as MRI of the liver, gallbladder, spleen, and pancreas, as well as viral panel tests, should be considered. The baby should still receive active treatment. It is recommended to hospitalize the baby for both examination and blue light therapy treatment. Alternatively, albumin infusion may be administered to prevent bilirubin encephalopathy.
