Question

Is neonatal jaundice a severe disease?

Answer

Newborns usually exhibit physiological jaundice within three days after birth, a normal and cause for no concern. It typically appears within 2 to 3 days after birth and resolves naturally within 7 to 14 days. For premature or low-birth-weight infants, jaundice may take up to a month to clear. If the newborn has no other abnormalities, no treatment is usually necessary, and the jaundice will improve on its own.
