Question

Why does a baby vomit after drinking milk? Particularly, it seems to happen more often at night when they breastfeed. Although the baby’s bowel movements are normal and they are very active, they tend to sweat a lot after each feeding. What could be the cause of this, and are there any ways to improve it?

Answer

Children naturally love to play, which is part of their nature. If a baby lies down flat on their back immediately after drinking milk, the milk may leak out of the corners of their mouth, or even all over. However, if the baby is held upright for a while after changing diapers before being placed back in bed, the incidence of vomiting can be significantly reduced. Sometimes, simply paying attention to the method of changing diapers by the mother can resolve the issue of regurgitation. However, some regurgitation may be pathological and requires special attention from the mother. If any of the following situations occur, it is advisable to take the baby to see a doctor immediately: 1. jet-like vomiting; 2. The baby shows a painful expression while vomiting; 3. The vomited milk has a yellow-green or brown color. If none of these conditions are present, it is usually just a minor issue.
