Question

What is a Down Syndrome test?

Answer

A Down Syndrome test is a blood test performed on pregnant women to assess the risk of their fetus having Down Syndrome. Normal reference values include measurements of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), free β-hCG, and related risk factors. If the test results indicate a high risk, it is recommended to undergo amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling for confirmation. Even if the test results are normal, it does not completely rule out the possibility of Down Syndrome.
