Question
A 3-year-old child fell at kindergarten and is unable to stand on their right foot. There is pain when pressing on the lower part of the calf. The question is whether removing the cast will cause the fracture to displace.
Answer
Removing the cast on a child’s fracture does not cause displacement, as children’s fractures are greenstick fractures, not completely broken. After another 2 weeks or so, the fracture should heal, and the child can resume normal activities and walking after the cast is removed. Normal activities during the immobilization period will not cause displacement or affect healing. I hope this answer is helpful. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Wishing your child a speedy recovery.
