Question
Can babies develop tic disorders? My son is nine months old, and this week I noticed that he occasionally tilts his mouth to one side and arches his body while standing, lasting for about 2-3 seconds before everything returns to normal. Now I’ve also noticed this phenomenon while he’s sitting, but it’s less severe and can happen multiple times a day. The baby has poor sleep at night, often crying and fussing twice or three times in the first half of the night, but it’s better in the second half. Could this be childhood tic disorder?
Answer
Hello, based on the description of your baby’s symptoms, it is currently considered possible that this is a muscle coordination issue caused by incomplete neurological development rather than childhood tic disorder. Your baby is only two months old, and typically, childhood tic disorder does not appear at such a young age. Additionally, the symptoms may be due to incomplete neurological development caused by cesarean section or preterm birth, or they may be due to muscle tension caused by indigestion. It is recommended that you take your baby to the hospital for a check-up to receive more accurate diagnoses and treatment suggestions.
