Question
A few days ago, I suddenly noticed that I couldn’t hear out of my left ear. After a hospital examination, it was found that there is a significant hearing loss in the left ear, while the right ear’s hearing is normal. No obvious abnormalities were found in the MRI. The cause is currently unknown, and treatment advice is sought.
Answer
Tinnitus can be caused by various factors, including outer ear diseases, otosclerosis, ototoxic drug poisoning, and noise damage. Tinnitus symptoms can be diverse, ranging from unilateral or bilateral to intermittent or persistent. The patient’s current condition may be due to foreign objects in the external auditory canal or cerumen impaction, or it could be caused by other more severe conditions. It is recommended to undergo further examinations to determine the cause and take appropriate treatment measures.
