Question

My child is 14 months old and has had a bit of diarrhea for the past two days, with it being especially severe today, totaling 5 episodes of loose stools. Sometimes, they feel the urge to go but can’t, and occasionally, there’s a small amount of loose stool mixed in. I’ve given them Simethicone and took a Lactase Tablet at night. Should I mix the medicine with formula milk to give it to them, as I’m worried that the effectiveness might be reduced? What other medication should I give them? Do I need to take them to see a doctor? They only had one episode this morning, but several in the afternoon. What dietary precautions should I take? Thank you.

Answer

It’s possible that this could be autumnal diarrhea, most commonly caused by rotavirus, with a course lasting 3-7 days. It is recommended to give the child half a tablet each of Pansodine Tablets, Folic Acid Tablets, Intestine Recovery Tablets, Lactobacillus Tablets, and Potassium Carbonate Tablets three times a day, along with oral consumption of Changle Kang Oral Powder. Remember to avoid giving the child cold and raw foods and ensure they drink plenty of water. This should suffice.
