Question

A 9-year-old child has been suffering from chronic stomach pain and has a tendency to vomit after eating sweets. They have previously been treated with stomach medicine and anti-inflammatory drugs but have not seen any improvement. How can the pain be alleviated?

Answer

It is recommended to undergo a gastroscopy to determine the cause. If the issue is gastritis or gastric ulcer, a quadruple therapy is suggested, including bismuth subgallate, amoxicillin, metronidazole, and omeprazole. The course lasts for 7 days, followed by the continued use of bismuth subgallate for an additional 6 weeks. Note that amoxicillin requires a skin test, and it is advisable to avoid alcohol, coffee, spicy and cold foods, as well as excessive intake of starchy foods. It is suggested to eat smaller meals more frequently, maintain regular meal times, and avoid hard-to-digest foods.
