Question
On the second day after birth, the neonate was found to have right-sided convulsions and tremors. The CT scan showed hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy. How should treatment be approached?
Answer
- Early Detection and Early Treatment: The sooner treatment begins, the more it can promote normal development of the nervous system, improve abnormal posture and movement, suppress abnormal reflexes, and prevent complications such as tendinitis and joint deformities, thus reducing the risk of disability.
- Comprehensive Treatment: Based on the principles of neural development and kinesiology, Vojta and Bobath methods are primarily used, along with fine motor skills and language training. Appropriate physical therapy and occupational therapy are also incorporated to promote the recovery and development of the affected child.
