Question
How to treat a 10-year-old child with myopia of 700 degrees in both eyes?
Answer
Amblyopia is a common pediatric eye disease in clinical ophthalmology. It is a state of visual function decline that occurs during infancy due to various reasons such as perception, movement, conduction, and visual center issues, which prevent the eyes from receiving appropriate visual stimulation, thereby affecting visual development. The main manifestations are low vision and binocular vision dysfunction. In our country, the prevalence of amblyopia is about 2-4%, mostly affecting one eye but can also affect both eyes. According to the etiology, it can be classified into: (1) strabismic amblyopia; (2) refractive amblyopia; (3) anisometropic amblyopia; (4) sensory deprivation amblyopia; (5) congenital amblyopia. The key to treating amblyopia lies in early detection and early treatment.
