Question
How to treat respiratory infections in infants? Can medication be used?
Answer
If an infant has an upper respiratory infection, the following measures are recommended:
- General Measures: Allow the child to rest more, avoid excessive activity, and maintain good ventilation in the environment. Avoid taking the child to crowded places to reduce the risk of cross-infection.
- Diet: Since infections can affect a child’s appetite, offer light, easy-to-digest foods and ensure adequate water intake to aid in cooling.
- Symptomatic Treatment: If the child’s body temperature exceeds 38.5°C, physical cooling methods or medication for cooling can be used, such as cold compresses on the forehead. However, if cold reactions occur, medication for cooling should not be used.
