Question

My baby has been fond of shaking their head since birth, and they are still doing this at over two months old. I don’t know what’s going on. Have you seen a doctor? What kind of help can I expect?

Answer

Is your baby sweating excessively? Have they been supplemented with calcium? Babies deficient in calcium may exhibit this kind of behavior. Daytime head shaking could be normal, as babies may be exercising their neck muscles. Every child will occasionally practice shaking their head after learning to do so. As for night-time head shaking during sleep, it usually begins in early childhood, where there may be abnormal head movements during deep sleep, sometimes accompanied by whole-body swaying.
