Question

My daughter is 5.5 years old. She had an EEG showing an abnormal hemispheric EEG pattern, with primary discharge in the right frontal and left occipital regions. The MRI showed no abnormalities. About a month later, the hospital said it was viral encephalitis. She was hospitalized for 12 days, and now they’re not quite sure what’s going on.

Answer

If diagnosed as viral, (it should not be meningitis but encephalitis or meningoencephalitis), the general course of infection does not usually exceed 15 days, and recovery takes about half a year. The main treatment is antiviral therapy and prevention of bacterial infection. Gamma globulin has some antiviral effects, and An Guang Huang Huang injection can be used. If nasal feeding is possible, An Guang Huang Wan can also be used as an auxiliary treatment.
