Question

My baby is eleven months old and sleeps for about an hour around 8 PM. After waking up, they can sleep for another two hours, but they toss and turn during the latter half of the night, sometimes crying and kicking off the covers. Even when covered, they can be startled awake. Parents are asking how to ensure the baby sleeps peacefully all night.

Answer

Every child has their own biological clock, and it’s normal for parents to notice that their child sleeps well sometimes and is clingy at other times, as this is a natural self-regulation process. Parents should help children establish a stable biological clock. Before putting the baby to sleep for the afternoon nap, it’s a good idea to take them to the bathroom first. Try not to wake the baby up at night to use the bathroom; if you must, avoid turning on the lights. Use a night light or leave a small crack in the curtains for lighting. When waking the child up to use the bathroom, avoid talking to them to prevent them from becoming alert.
