Question

How can a child’s external ear be improved?

Answer

Children with malformed ears can undergo a bone-conduction ABR test around three months after birth to roughly assess hearing and the stapedius nerve. It is best to fit them with bone-conduction hearing aids in the first six months of life to promote auditory nerve development and future language skills. Ear pinning surgery can be performed at the age of six. For an assessment of the external auditory canal and middle ear, a temporal bone CT scan is recommended to be done six months later.
