Question

My baby’s BCG injection site has become purulent. How should I handle it?

Answer

After your baby receives the BCG vaccine, if you notice a purulent area or ulceration at the injection site, keep the affected area clean but do not apply ointment or wrap it. Also, ensure that your baby’s clothing is not too tight to avoid friction on the wound. If pus is discharged, use sterile gauze or cotton to gently clean it up, but do not squeeze the wound. Generally, the wound will heal naturally and scab over within two to three months. If the condition is severe or does not improve, it is recommended to seek medical assistance immediately.
