Question

How long is the infection period for hand, foot, and mouth disease?

Answer

Generally, from the onset of symptoms, isolation is needed for about 14 days before children can focus on schoolwork. During the isolation period, children should not come into contact with other children. Clothing and bedding worn by the child should be washed and disinfected promptly. In addition to disinfecting the child’s feces, if blisters break open, it is easy to become infected. A few patients may develop life-threatening complications such as myocarditis, pulmonary edema, aseptic meningitis, and encephalitis.
