Question

Can mentally disabled individuals marry?

Answer

Unless the mentally disabled person is civilly incapacitated and does not fall under any strictly prohibited marriage situations: (1) direct blood relatives and collateral relatives within three generations; (2) suffering from medical conditions deemed unsuitable for marriage, then mentally disabled individuals can marry as long as they reach the legal marriage age. For mentally ill individuals or minors without legal guardians, their guardians’ consent is required, but the absence of a guardian does not affect their right to marry. Marriage is a matter of freedom and does not require the consent of others.
