Question

What Causes Osteochondrosis Dissecans?

Answer

Osteochondrosis dissecans is a localized cartilage bone joint deformity disease based on the condition of cartilaginous abscess. It commonly occurs in children and adolescents, primarily affecting the skeletal and joint systems. This leads to cartilage ossification obstruction, shortening of tubular bones, and secondary deformative joint disease. It causes growth and development disorders in tubular long bones, joint enlargement, pain, muscle relaxation, swelling, and movement disorders. Patients are characterized by short stature, short fingers, joint deformities, and abnormal gait (typically limping or waddling).
