Question

How Are Vascular Malformations Formed?

Answer

Vascular malformations are formed from multiple vascular channels lined with endothelial cells, with varying sizes and shapes, resembling a sponge-like structure. Blood clots can form within the sinusoids, which may then fibrose into venous stones. The common types of vascular malformations we see include microvenous malformations, venous malformations, arteriovenous malformations, lymphatic malformations, and mixed vascular malformations. Some vascular inflammations are not true tumors and are therefore referred to as vascular malformations. They are sourced from tumors or malformations of blood vessels or lymphatic vessels. It is best to undergo a detailed magnetic resonance imaging examination for diagnosis. Treatment plans vary depending on the differences in arterial and venous blood supply.
