Question

At 70 days old, my newborn’s head often tilts backward. What could be the cause?

Answer

Hello! If a child frequently tilts their head backward, it may be due to high muscle tone or improper holding posture. If parents do not hold their child correctly, always supporting the neck with their arms, the child will become accustomed to tilting their head backward. Additionally, if the child has an abnormal birth history, such as difficulty breathing, umbilical cord around the neck, meconium-stained amniotic fluid, or preterm birth, this may also lead to high muscle tone. It is recommended that parents take their child to see a local pediatrician to determine if there is a condition of high muscle tone. In some cases, head CT scans or electroencephalograms may be needed to assist in diagnosis.
