Question
What are the symptoms of facial paralysis?
Answer
Patients with facial paralysis may experience relaxed cheek muscles when closing their mouths, leading to drooping of the corners of the mouth. Additionally, lifting the eyebrows is restricted, causing forehead creases to become shallow or disappear, with lower eyebrow placement and droopy eyelids. The inner corners of the eyes may not be sharp, and speaking may result in unclear lip sounds. Due to numbness in the cheek muscles, food may get trapped between the cheeks and gums, requiring the use of chopsticks to remove it. In infants with facial nerve palsy, there may be an impact on suckling function.
