Question

What types of cerebral palsy exist in children?

Answer

Hypotonia (atonia): Characterized by low muscle tone, the limbs are in a flaccid state with little voluntary movement. When lying on the back, the limbs are abducted and externally rotated, resembling an upside-down frog. When lying on the back, the head cannot be raised. It is often confused with muscle relaxation caused by muscle diseases, but hypotonia can be distinguished by the tenderness of the tendons. Most cases transform into severe pain or dystonia types after infancy. The same child may exhibit symptoms of 2 to 3 types mentioned above. Severe pain and dystonia often occur simultaneously. Only a very few children cannot be classified.
