Question
What Are the Symptoms of Infants’ Diarrhea?
Answer
The primary symptoms of infants’ diarrhea are gastrointestinal in nature. The daily number of bowel movements is usually less than 10 times, with only a few cases reaching a dozen or more, and each bowel movement is not very large. The stools are loose or watery, yellow in color, have a sour taste, and often contain white or yellowish milk curds (soap blocks) and foam. A small amount of mucus may also be present. There is generally no fever or only a slight fever, accompanied by loss of appetite, occasional spitting up or dry heaving. No obvious systemic symptoms are present; the child maintains good spirits and shows no signs of dehydration. Most cases recover within a few months.
