Question

My husband suddenly had a stiff face and couldn’t speak, which scared us. We took him to the hospital for a thorough check-up, and the doctor said it was facial paralysis. I want to know what causes facial paralysis and how we can help?

Answer

Facial paralysis can be caused by the following reasons: 1. The blood vessels that supply the facial nerves may become inflamed due to wind and cold, leading to severe pain that causes brain edema, swelling, and pressure, resulting in hemorrhagic disease of the nerve tissue. 2. Most patients have experienced cold wind or cold water stimulation on the affected side of their head before the onset of the disease, such as using a fan or being exposed to cold water. 3. A small number of patients show signs of viral infection before or after the onset of the disease, commonly suffering from symptoms such as colds and otitis media.
