Question

My child’s grades have been improving lately, but the teacher mentioned that the child often struggles to breathe during physical education classes. It gets better when they are at rest. After a thorough check-up at the hospital, it was diagnosed as epilepsy, and they are now taking medication. Could you please explain what this disease is?

Answer

Pediatric epilepsy is a sudden, transient disorder of brain function and endocrine imbalance. Due to the frequent recurrence of stiffness, it often leads to intraventricular hemorrhage, and the recurrence of muscle clonic seizures itself is part of an early muscle clonic encephalopathy syndrome, so both have a poor prognosis. The prodromes of pediatric epilepsy are mainly caused by incomplete development of the child’s nervous system, with the brain cortex affected by high fever or severe mental stimulation, leading to excessive excitement. Once epilepsy is diagnosed, active treatment should be initiated.
